Remote Learning
Remote Education at Heswall Primary School
At Heswall Primary School, we recognise that there may be occasions when the school is unable to open as normal. In these circumstances, we will aim to provide children with access to learning at home so that their education can continue.
Remote education is not intended to replace attending school. It is a temporary measure to maintain continuity of learning when the school is unable to operate normally.
This may include circumstances such as:
- an unexpected school closure due to emergency repairs or other issues affecting the school building;
- severe weather or other circumstances where it is not safe for the school to open;
- a public health emergency, such as the COVID-19 pandemic; or
- other exceptional circumstances where the school is unable to operate as normal.
How will remote learning be provided?
Depending on the circumstances and the age of the children, we may use a combination of Google Classroom, learning resources and work packs.
Teachers may provide activities and direct families towards a range of trusted educational resources to support children’s learning across the curriculum. These may include:
- Google Classroom – for sharing learning activities, instructions and resources.
- Oak National Academy – a range of lessons and resources covering all areas of the curriculum.
- BBC Bitesize – educational resources and activities across a wide range of subjects.
- Draw with Rob – art and drawing activities.
- The Body Coach with Joe Wicks – physical activity and exercise sessions.
- Times Tables Rock Stars – to support children’s times tables practice.
- Nessy – to support reading, spelling and literacy skills.
- DoodleMaths – to support children’s maths learning and practice.
Younger children may also be provided with printed resources or work packs, where appropriate.
Learning activities will be appropriate to the child’s age and stage of learning. Children should complete activities as regularly as they are able to, and families can contact the school if they require support with accessing or completing remote learning.
Staying connected with school
Where possible, Google Classroom will allow children to remain connected with their learning and teachers during a period of school closure. Teachers will provide guidance and feedback where appropriate.
Our aim is to ensure that, during an unexpected or extended school closure, children can continue to learn and maintain a connection with their school community.
Remote education is a temporary measure to support continuity of learning during exceptional circumstances. It is not a substitute for the education, social interaction and wider experiences that children receive through attending Heswall Primary School.
