Our Approach (Full Behaviour Policy Available in Policy Section)
At our school, we believe that great behaviour comes from strong relationships, clear and consistent expectations, and a culture of kindness, empathy and respect. We know that children learn best and are more likely to remember what they have learned when they are happy, feel safe and are ready to learn.
Our approach is informed by the work of behavioural experts such as Paul Dix and Jennifer Nock, alongside our own experience and understanding of the children at Heswall.
We support our pupils to make positive choices and understand that mistakes are opportunities to learn. We take the time to teach, guide and support children, helping them to repair relationships, reflect on their experiences and make better choices in the future.
Our aim is to create a calm, supportive and nurturing environment where everyone feels valued, respected and safe, and where all children are ready and able to learn.
We use Zones of Regulation to help pupils understand and communicate how they are feeling. We teach children practical strategies to recognise when they are becoming dysregulated and, importantly, to develop the skills they need to regulate themselves and manage their emotions successfully.
