Our Approach to SEND

At Heswall Primary School, we are fully committed to ensuring that all pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), are supported to achieve their full potential. We believe that early identification is the key to helping children succeed, and we work closely with families to recognise and address needs as soon as possible. We provide an inclusive learning environment where individual needs are identified early and appropriate support is put in place. Staff work closely with parents, carers, external agencies, and the SENDCo to develop personalised strategies and interventions that help pupils access the curriculum and make progress. Through high-quality teaching, targeted support, regular monitoring and a nurturing approach, we aim to promote confidence, independence and positive outcomes for every child.

For children in the Resourced Provision class (Honeycomb Class), Mrs A Lewis is both teacher (Mon-Wed) and SENDCO for the children in this class.  To contact Mrs Lewis, please email schooloffice@heswall-primary.wirral.sch.uk.  Alternatively you can telephone the school on 0151 342 7491 between 8.30am-4.00pm and the office staff will ensure Mrs Lewis gets your message.

Working in Parnership with Parents and Carers

At Heswall Primary School, we recognise that parents and carers play a vital role in their child’s education and development. We work in close partnership with families, maintaining regular communication and ensuring that parents/carers are fully informed and involved at every stage of the SEND process. Parents/carers and children are actively involved in the creation, review and evaluation of individual action plans, helping to ensure that targets and support strategies reflect the child’s strengths, needs and aspirations. Through collaborative planning, regular meetings and open dialogue, we build strong relationships with families to support positive outcomes and promote the best possible progress for every child. Our SENDCo is always happy to meet with parents and carers to discuss their child’s needs, explain the support available and help families understand the graduated approach to SEND provision. Where a greater level of support is required, the SENDCo can provide guidance on the additional evidence and processes involved in securing enhanced funding or applying for an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), ensuring that families feel informed and supported throughout.
